Melon King

This cocktail is sweet, savory, salty and spicy; all the bases are covered. It is like a really great gazpacho, but there is rum in there too, which is great!”

GLASSWARE: Lowball

Recipe:

  • 2 oz Ålander White or Gold Rum

  • ½ oz Simple Syrup

  • ¾ oz Fresh Lime Juice

  • ½ cup Cantaloupe Cubes (About ½-1” Across)

  • 1 Basil Leaf, Torn

  • 1 Small Slice Jalapeño, No Seeds

  • 1 Pinch Salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

In a shaker, muddle ½ cup cubed cantaloupe. Add 1 torn basil leaf and 1 small slice of jalapeño (no seeds). Add liquid ingredients and shake. Strain cocktail over ice and garnish with one additional basil leaf.

SIMPLE SYRUP:

In a saucepan combine:

  • 1 cup granulated white sugar

  • 1 cup water

Heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat, then cool. Use right away or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
