Singapore Sling

The Long Bar at Singapore's Raffles Hotel is credited as the home of the Singapore Sling.  The original recipe makes use of cherry brandy (often Cherry Heering), but The Lexington recipe highlights a fantastic Tattersall Distilling cherry liqueur instead.

The resulting cocktail is an intersection of old and new, the East and the West, and a refreshing patio pounder.

Recipe:

  • 2 oz London Dry Gin
  • ½ oz Tattersall Sour Cherry Liqueur
  • 2 Dash Angostura Bitters
  • 2 oz Lemon Sour *
  • Club Soda
  • ½ oz Benedictine

* To make Lemon Sour: combine equal parts lemon juice and simple syrup.

Instructions:

Combine gin, sour cherry liqueur, sour and Angostura in an ice-filled Hurricane glass (or, if handy, the smaller version called a Squall glass).  Top with club soda; float Benedictine on top.  Garnish with Orange Maraschino Cherry Flag.

The Lexington originally opened in 1935, and has held on to its grand charm through the decades.  After a three-year hiatus, you can enjoy the classics (like pot pie) and new dishes once again.  Two bars serve up riffs on classic cocktails, beginning with a social hour every day from 3 to 5 pm.  Rooftop dining is coming soon!
